My fellow readers: Unfortunately the Borders booksigning was a bust, I only sold about six books, but I did meet some nice people from the National Council on History Educators, who were in town for a conference. They told me that the emphasis for their conference was on Lincoln. They even mentioned Joshua Speed’s friendship with Lincoln. Coming up on April 8th at Harrodsburg, Ky at Morgan Row Museum, I will be giving a lecture on Lincoln and the Speeds. I have never been to the Morgan Row museum so it should be an experience. Hope to see some of you there.

Dear fellow readers,
I am getting quite a few new bookings and confirmation for other lectures and book signings. The Lincoln Boyhood Home has just confirmed my book signing for June 14 at 2:30 P.M. and The Lexington History Museum has booked me for a lecture on August 21 at 7:30 P.M. Looks like it is going to be a busy year! I got a email back from History Press Inc. They are defintely interested in my new book project, but they want to publish the book proposal in a series of books. We will see.

It’s just a reprint of the publisher’s book description from Amazon, but still, this is a well-produced blog that covers all Civil War book releases, and we think it’s cool.

On the books page on Bryan’s site are now links to where you can purchase Lincoln and the Speeds and Butcher Burbridge from either Amazon or Barnes & Noble. Note that these online stores don’t actually have the books in stock yet, so it would work like a pre-order. Of course, in Bryan’s store, the books are in stock and ready to ship today.
Also, in advance of Bryan’s March 29 appearance at Destinations Booksellers in New Albany and April appearances at Borders in Louisville (Fourth Street Live!) and Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Lexington, books are being shipped to these stores. See Bryan’s event page for more details on these appearances. Meanwhile, from what I’m hearing, the books are being shipped to other stores and tourist venues, such as state parks.

As they are now available, Butcher Burbridge and Lincoln and the Speeds can now be ordered through Bryan’s Store. They will also be available at this weekend’s Kentucky Crafted, future lecture and book signing events, and before long, in various brick-and-mortar stores.

It’s no longer tentative. Bryan’s new books Lincoln and the Speeds and Butcher Burbridge ARE going to be at Kentucky Crafted (Acclaim Press booth) Saturday and Sunday, March 8 and 9. Bryan has seen them himself today at Kentucky Crafted, which is today and Friday open only to “the trade” (company/org buyers and such). Bryan is very excited and told me both of the books look great.
Note: The books are still officially available for pre-orders through Friday evening. Get your signed *and* numbered copy before the switchover.
On edit: Added a mention of the booth where Bryan’s books can be found.

The Borders event has been confirmed for Friday, April 4 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the store located at Fourth Street Live! in downtown Louisville. Bryan will be signing his new book Lincoln and the Speeds. See Bryan’s Upcoming Appearances page for this listing, in addition to other upcoming events.
Also, Bryan has worked out a deal with Wide Awake Films to sell the new documentary The Battle of Perryville in his online store. The price of the DVD is $24.95.
On that note, Bryan has recently finished shooting a DVD tour of the Civil War Museum of the Western Theater in Bardstown, Kentucky (I’ll ask Bryan to talk more about it here soon). This will also become available for sale in Bryan’s store once post-production is complete.

Dear fellow readers: I just returned from the Frazier museum to view the new exhibit on Lincoln in the Kentucky Historical Society History Mobile exhibit. I have visited the History mobile in the past and really admired their exhibit on Lewis & Clark, and Kentucky During the Civil War. I must admit that this time I must admit that the exhibit lacked Lincoln artifacts and had very few display cases. The exhibit traces Lincoln’s early life in Kentucky, Emancipation, and the views Kentuckians had of Lincoln during 1863 and 1864. I really like the first person narratives from Thomas Bramlette, Hodge, and other Kentuckians on their views about Lincoln. From my standpoint I was glad to see them mention Lincoln’s friendship with Joshua Speed and General Stephen Gano Burbridge’s rule in Kentucky. They had a LCD TV playing images of the the White House in 1864, and Hodgenville, but I must admit, the TV could have been utilized better with a documentary on Lincoln and Kentucky. I also would have like to see some Lincoln artifacts or artifacts connected to Lincoln through other Kentukians. I still recommend Kentuckians to see the exhibit. I am very much looking forward to seeing the documentary on KET on Saturday.
